New assistant principal at Sandburg Middle School (SMS)

Dear Sandburg Middle School families,

I am delighted to announce that Charles Johnson-Nixon is the new assistant principal (AP) of our school. His first day will be Oct. 24.

Mr. Johnson-Nixon comes to us from Oltman Middle School in South Washington County Schools, where he has served as AP since 2019. His responsibilities there included serving as principal for sixth grade and half of the eighth grades, managing school safety protocols, and supervising paraprofessionals and testing.

The AP position at Sandburg is a return to Robbinsdale Area Schools for Mr. Johnson-Nixon, who served as AP at both Cooper High School and Noble Elementary in our district. Other positions have included AP at St. Louis Park High School and visual arts leadership and teaching positions in Minneapolis Public Schools.

Mr. Johnson-Nixon has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art from North Carolina Central University; a Bachelor of Science in art education from St. Cloud State University, and a master’s degree in educational leadership, along with an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree and K-12 principal licensure, from Concordia University.

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Johnson-Nixon to SMS and back to Robbinsdale Area Schools.

Sincerely,

Jay Hancock
Principal
